New layout and a new section

First thing you’ll probably notice is a new layout for the site. The other one was just overwhelming so I wanted to make it simple. The next thing you’ll notice is the “Interesting Articles.” I spend a lot of time reading random articles around the web and I’m afraid that someday they may disappear over time so I decided to create a new section. Besides, I’d like to share them 🙂

Quick updates:

Tutelary:

Work on Tutelary is still going on and I’m working on a video for the kickstarter. I have also been having a friend test the game out and let me know what to change/fix, since the kickstarter will offer the option of the game in alpha stage. I want to make sure the core mechanics of the game work.

Music:

I have officially started writing the new album. I have one song done and another in progress with several core ideas in my head for future songs. I am going to take my time writing this album and make sure every song is something I can be proud of. I will feature other songs on the album I have already recorded and finished producing, but never included in an album. I will also re-mix and re-master my first (and only) album and attach them to this album as well. Again, I’m very proud of my first album, but a lot of people didn’t really like the recording (which was intentional). I will make sure their sound is more “modern.” I am approaching this album from a much different style, but it’s still very much black metal. If I could compare it to anything I would say imagine Enslaved and Carpathian Forest having a baby.

I Shouldn’t be Alive

I shouldn’t be alive. Everyone was running past me towards a large mansion with Roman pillars that held the large deck on the second floor. The paleness of the structure seemed hidden by the reflections of fires on the streets. I stared at the abandoned cars on the once busy highway; all burning making identifying their brands a difficulty. I took a look at the rifle in my hand and swiftly joined the swarm of soldiers running towards the building. It wasn’t easy, though. I crouched down and leapt from one car to another hoping they would protect me from the onslaught of bullets. Others were less fortunate. While leaping I found myself stepping over bodies attempting to avoid tripping over them. I felt and heard one bullet gaze past my ear. I turned my head to find the guy behind me fall down. He was one of us and appeared dead so I kept moving forward.

A Tutelary Update

I’ve been on vacation lately and worked on Tutelary: The Adventures of Freyr a little more. I’ve made A LOT of progress. A large setback for me was getting the floating city of Meiji working properly. I also added a new skill for Freyr. I’m debating on getting a Kickstarter going. I would like someone to come in and write all the music and have another person remake all the graphics. I’ll think about it the next couple of weeks. If I do get something going then I’d set a goal at $1,000. $800 for the graphics and music, and another $200 on some other licenses that I really need. If it goes any higher than that then I’d set stretch goals, but I have no idea what since I doubt this will even make it to $1,000.

Regarding music: I haven’t really written anything lately. I was working on two albums of different styles and put a hold on both. I can’t seem to complete any songs and the songs I complete I’m not satisfied with. Perfectionism at its best.

The Lost Exit

I had just finished getting off of work. After clocking out on my computer, I headed towards the elevator through two glass doors. I push the bottom of the two silver buttons between the elevator doors to call the elevator. Moments later I hear a “ding” sound and walk in to push the ground button so I can finally head home. Before the doors closed a lady with sun-colored hair and pale-white skin walked in. A nod sufficed the acknowledgement of each other’s existence within this confined moving room.

See the blog on the left side?

No? Okay, it’s missing for a reason. A couple of weeks ago I received an error that my maximum bandwidth had been getting close. I was confused as I have 200GB of bandwidth and on a good month about 10MB is used since I don’t get a lot of traffic. It turns out that the comments on the site had bots come in and place tags that would attract other bots. It gradually increased over time to the point where I was receiving 1,000,000 hits (yes, one million) per week. This brought the site down really fast. I was previously utilizing Nucleus CMS and a subdomain for the blog, but after that debacle I have decided to push it on to this site. At this point it’s a matter of figuring out what I want to keep and what I don’t want to keep.

Now for some updates! The next album is still in progress. I honestly haven’t worked on it lately as everything I have written in my head is for a different style of music. At this point I’ll probably write two albums simultaneously and release one when I feel like it’s done. For my Tutelary game I’ve been slowly making progress on it. My laptop that hosts the files has been overheating lately and I haven’t had a lot of time to sit down and really put something out. Don’t worry, it’s all backed up on Dropbox! I can only do so much before the laptop burns my lap and I’m looking into new laptops now.

Most importantly, I’m continuing my education (again) and won’t have a lot of time to concentrate on either the album(s) or the game, so please be patient. Don’t forget I have a full-time job. Mind you I’m not making any money or expecting any money for either of these and they’re more of hobbies than anything else.

A Tutelary Update: Chapter 3 is complete!

I’m pleased to announce that Chapter is 3 is complete and Chapter 4 is currently going strong. Now that most of the towns have been designed, the game development will go much more faster. At this point it’s mostly adding dialogue and events that will consume the rest of my time. After Chapter 3 ends, the open-world environment is going so you can go literally any where you want. You may come across some difficult monsters if you go to new areas!

My proudest achievement outside of the journal system is that townspeople will interact with you based on current events. Regardless of what town you’re in, people will be talking about the latest rumors and events. I also had to update some minor bugs, work on the animation for the bow and arrow, and get the “guard” function in battle working properly. The guard function acts as a defense and blocks 50% of damage. It also replenishes 10% of your hp (ala Legend of Dragoon). Battles are more randomized. No, not more frequent. What I mean is that you will face a random amount of opponents each battle. It could be anywhere between 1 and 8.
